Help for a friend whose prostate removal operation has not been successful

Hi everyone I’m new to this, I’ve recently finished my prostate radiotherapy and hormone treatment, my PSA level is 0.01 so I’m very happy.
my friend had an operation to remove his prostate before Christmas.
It turns out that only half was removed. It is lying across his uretha.
He is still waiting for an operation to have the piece left in removed.
He is desperate for help and doesn’t know what to do, he is not good with email and social media, so I’m asking these questions on his behalf.
He cannot pass any urine and has to fit a catheter himself to drain his bladder. He’s worried sick about becoming dehydrated and he’s afraid to go more than half an hour from his house.
I would love to give him some guidance as I’m worried about his mental health.
Thanks in advance good people.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your friend is struggling.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group which will mean you can ask questions and share experiences.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your friend's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
