Hi I'm new and struggling with my husband's diagnosis he's got lung cancer which has spread to his bones liver and lymph nodes we only got married in December. I'm in a low paid job but they r good with me let me have time off if I need it but he keeps telling me I need to get a better paid job because once he's gone I won't be able to afford to live. I love my job and have good friends there and don't want to change jobs he said he's thinking of me but since he's been diagnosed he seems to of gone money obsessed and said he's leaving everything to his kids which obviously upset me as I thought he would leave me provided for this has caused resentment towards him from me. I feel awful as I want to support him but feel angry towards him too he doesn't think the illness effects me any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis like this in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' support challenges can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and when it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting family and friends you may benefit from joining and posting in our Carers only support group (that I see you have joined and our Supporting someone with incurable cancer support group where you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.

To go to a group click on the “Bold Links” I have created above then join if required (to join, once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
