Chemo

Hello,

I’m new here and would like a chat if anyone would like to.

I was diagnosed with a large sarcoma in my lung and subsequently had my right lung removed in Feb. We were aware that there were small legions on my pancreas but the idea was that I would have Sabre radiotherapy. I was very jaundiced and had three unsuccessful ERCPs then I had a very traumatic PTC.

End result is that I was not suitable for Sabre as legions were too big. I have had radiotherapy which didn’t work and cancer has spread to my stomach and lung.

I have been offered chemotherapy, which I have to have decided upon by Thu but I’m terrified. I’m not doing anything except sitting my in a chair and I have a couple of pressure sores. I’m so worried about chemo and getting an infection into the stent in my stomach. The palliative nurse said we can increase my patch and try taking nerve tablets as the pain and discomfort I describe sounds like nerve pain to her.

I don’t know if to have chemo and drag things out for my family or let this awful thing take it’s toll and give them less misery.

Im sorry I have posted such a depressing post.

Thank you for reading

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The New to Community is like the community reception desk where we can direct you to the best place for support but I do see that you have already joined and posted in our Pancreatic cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

You may also want to consider joining our Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only (Please join the group but for everyones safety this will then have to be approved by the Macmillan Community Team so will not happen immediately) this group connects you to a group of people who in the same position.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Thank you Mike for reading and commenting on my post.

I have just read your story and I am amazed at your strength and embarrassed at my complaints.

I wish you good luck with everything and thank you for being a champion.

  • We all have to navigate our own cancer journey and we have to do what we have to do to get through it.

Some of the challenges are hard, others are not but the most important thing to keep in mind, at all times everything that is done needs to be for the greater good for you both physically and mentally.

Where ever your journey takes you I wish you well and never compare stories as each cancer story is unique to that person ((hugs))
