My mum has lung cancer

My mum who is in her 70’s has recently been diagnosed with Lung Cancer (Monday) after taking herself to A&E with swollen abdomen, shoulder pain, problems urinating, a weak voice and very hoarse coughing.

It’s all come on very suddenly. The drs are meeting to discuss her case tomorrow and what the next steps may be. Surgery has been mentioned for a biopsy.

We don’t know any details of it and I’m finding that really difficult. The wait is very painful.

I also have 3 young children, one is only 3 months old so I’m finding juggling this news and the children really hard, whether or not the children (being germ bombs) will/should be able to see my Mum and being able to have some alone time with my mum without the children too.

I don’t think I’ve processed the news yet as I want to wait for the detailed diagnosis so I know what we’re dealing with, plus with 3 kids and a hubby that works away I think maybe I’m scared to let go in case I can’t pull myself back together. I feel like the news is going to be difficult to hear so ‘why go through the pain twice - just try and hold on until you have this information’.

I feel sadness that this is happening to my lovely mummy, and fear of the future and what she is going to have to go through, if she is strong enough to get through it. Sad for a future with her that might be cut short…what if she’s only got months left, what if what if….I just am finding the waiting so hard.
