I was diagnosed with lung cancer in Nov 2022 . . I've had radiotherapy and was told is have scan to see how things went . . I'm still waiting on appointment for scan.

After diagnosis I deemed to accept my lot , family commenting how well I'm coping etc . . Recently I've been in and out of hospital for lung infections due to copd. . Now I'm waking during night terrified of being told my times run out . . I think I've been in shock and just not accepting my diagnosis is real . . but am now in no doubt of my situation . . Please ANY advice on how to cope with this constant fear and panic attacks. I'm 55 with a husband 3 Kids and 3 grandkids .  My Husband is in complete denial he won't even say the word cancer, I love him so much and need him to face this too.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses and the ongoing challenges you are dealing with.

As fir your scan appointment I would be calling your team to ensure the appointment has not fallen through the NHS cracks.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend consider joining and posting in our supportive Lung Cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can put up your own post and introduce yourself to the group by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and can help all the family.

Macmillan have teamed up with Bupa to offer up to 6 free counselling sessions. You can read more about that by clicking here.as this may be a route to help your panic and Terrie attacks.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
