Hi there,
I'm 53 and was told after a series of biopsies following a routine mammogram that I had pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ which is apparently treated as DCIS. I have two areas in different sections of the breast and was told that I would need a mastectomy. I had previously developed Alopecia universalis a year ago and this news on top knocked me for six!!! my surgeon then said that a theraputic mammoplasty may be available as I have quite large breasts but if the margins weren't there I would go back in for the mastectomy. I said I would stick to the mastectomy and implant as I thought this would give more control. I'm really not sure if this was the right decision and just wondering if anyone has been in the same position. My mum and gran died of post menopausal breast cancer. My op is in two weeks and I'm terrified I haven't made the right decision!!!
Hi flossie9600 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with PLCIS and it's natural to wonder if you've made the right decision when you're given a choice.
The online community is divided up into different support groups, so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group so you can connect directly with others to ask questions, share experiences and give and receive support
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
