DCIS Mastectomy

Hi , I was diagnosed with DCIS in February which resulted in me having a skin sparing mastectomy and removal of nipple and areole in March . I had a Becker implant put in and on Friday I am having to have surgery to have it removed due to an infection . I am just feeling a little isolated and feel I’m back at the beginning again , and the prospect of two further surgeries after this one . Does anyone have any experience of the Becker implant as I have found it to be really uncomfortable , I’m having an expander put in on Friday and will then have to hopefully keep infection free before having the Becker implant put back in !! I guess I’m just feeling very low and wanted to reach out to see if anyone has had similar experiences? Thank you

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you now have to have a couple of surgeries after having an infection.

The online community is divided up into different support groups, so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group so you can connect directly with others who may have had a Becker implant.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
