Oesophageal Cancer

Hi, I was diagnosed with the above cancer February’23. I had an ESD in April, that did not rid all of the tumour. As a result I have been offered an oesophagectomy. Not that I was taken by surprise, as I’ve read up on this cancer. The information sheet given states there are 2 procedures/operations that can be performed depending on what stage the cancer is at. At present I don’t know what stage, as I neglected to ask. All I know is that the oesophagus will be removed & stomach pulled up.

Am I hazarding a guess that the medical team won’t know which procedure is best until I’m opened up. I have been informed that it will be done via keyhole surgery. However, if there’s more going on that hasn’t not showed up via an endscopy or CT scan.  There was a mention regarding lymph nodes ie has the cancer reached them? Maybe I’ve answered my own questions

I have yet to make a decision regarding treatment

Cheers

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the oesophageal cancer group, where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    ((hugs))
