Hi. My Mum aged 72 was diagnosed with cervical cancer over 6 years ago. She had a total hysterectomy which was successful. It did return and was treated with radiotherapy successfully. Last year it came back but lower down in her vagina, this has developed and stopped my Mum being able to pass urine, so a catheter was fitted as a temporary fix. She suffered so much pain with cramping so it has just been changed to a supra pubic catheter. She is still in hospital, post procedure and still in pain. The surgery was complicated due to the cancer. I cannot seem to find out any more than this. I am so worried about the prognosis, the unknown is driving me mad.
I work full time and am an only child, my Dad passed 5 years ago so its all on me.
I know I am not the only one, so would be interested to hear how others cope. Any help or advice woukd be welcomed.
Hi Sam M and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your mum is currently in hospital and it's natural to want to find out as much as you can about her type of cancer.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join both the cervical cancer and vaginal cancer groups, which are great places to ask questions and share experiences around treatment. I think you'd also benefit from joining either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group, if you're not her carer. Both of these last two groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with other people who are looking after a loved one living with cancer.
To join any of these groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
