Well I never expected to be here!! I just turned 79 and had no idea or thought of being told I have cancer!
Soon to have my 4th cycle of FLOT chemo. A 24 hour dose every 2 weeks. Though I was a strong robust person and that the side effects would be manageable. They are, just. What I find problematic is that with the side effects, I don’t know if I have an illness or just experiencing side effects. The other mental issue is not knowing if the chemo is working. Difficult.
Hi Chemo and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and I know what a shock it is at any age.
I can see that you've already found and joined the oesophageal cancer group and I'm sure that when you feel ready to post there you'll find it's a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

An endoscopy that followed an x-Ray in January revealed a polyp in my oesophagus and I was told there and then it was cancer. I rapidly met with the Upper GI nursing team at the QE hospital in Birmingham then Mr Griffiths the consultant surgeon. I then had a PET scan which I am told showed no spread followed by another endoscopy with ultra sound, but don’t know the result.
Put on a PICC line and the 4 x 2 week cycle treatment with FLOT started with the last one next Wednesday. Then a recovery period ready for surgery. Fingers crossed
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
