  • Today , I contacted my bank account insurance to extend the date of a trip. They wanted to do a Medical assessment. I was then told that my breast cancer diagnosis was excluded. They agreed it in 2018 when I had just finished Radiotherapy. I should have contacted them  each time I travelled if there were changes. There were no changes. Answered new questions today. Think they are using Verisk , as I later got a quote from another company using this system. £580 for a month , they then used another system & it was £85. A Huge difference. I have since spoken to friends who have been turned down by their banks
  • Systems  change. I called the Macmillan Help line & was in tears I spoke  with a very empathetic lady who referred me to someone else who was very helpful & has sent lots if information. Today I felt a victim. I have embraced my cancer journey in a positive manner  & hopefully I am clear of cancer. I am still taking Letrasol, but in the Insurance companies eyes. I am receiving cancer prevention medication. It was all very confusing.
it would be good to hear experiences of others& any recommendations please.. when you ask for a quote, please ask what system they are using

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to get travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group.

To join just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, look for the thread called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' as it's where the majority of recommendations are to be found.

When I contacted the bank who provide an annual travel insurance for me, I was told that my breast cancer was covered at no extra cost. They confirmed that taking drugs like letrozole, tamoxifen, Zometa, etc didn't count as treatment so didn't affect my premium.

I have also recently been covered by goodtogoinsurance.com who also covered my breast cancer and who also didn't bump up the premium because I was having adjuvant drugs, in my case Zometa.
