supporting husband

My husband was diagnosed with tonsil cancer with lymph nodes affected, back at the beginning of the year and is 2 weeks out of 6 weeks radiotherapy with 2 chemo cycles.  I have only just found this site and reading the experience of others has helped me a lot.  I have a better understanding of what to expect going forward.  One thing I have learned is that everyone is different and will react differently to the treatment.  We have 3 grown up sons who are being wonderfully supportive but I have been feeling somewhat isolated from everything, not really having anyone to talk to about what has been happening in terms of the cancer and treatment, so this site has been a big help. I have been feeling helpless as David has suffered from the side effects of the treatment.  I know I'm not alone in feeling this way, but it is so good to read of others in similiar situations - not that I would wish it on anyone else of course.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm glad that you've found this community so helpful and I know that reading about other people's experiences can be very constructive.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the head and neck cancer group, where you can connect with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband, and also the carers only group, which is a great place to discuss your worries and concerns with others who have a loved one living with cancer..

To join just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
