I didn't realise that Radiotherapy is as bad as chemo. My daughters partner with breast cancer is terrified of starting this next week. When can I find some support to help her. Everything on line is so depressing. She has just started feeling better after chemo and lumpectomy and now feels like she is going through it all again
Hi Willow1948 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your daughter's partner is terrified of the radiotherapy that she's starting this week. I hope you don't mind me asking what in particular it is that she's so scared about?
I had 10 days of radiotherapy, which finished in January, after a lumpectomy and chemotherapy for breast cancer and found it the easiest of the three treatments. I know we're all different, but the only side effect I had was a mildly irritating rash that developed on my chest but that was soon under control with a week's worth of hydrocortisone cream and antihistamine tablets.
I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
When you're ready to post there, just start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your daughter's partner's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If she's starting radiotherapy next week she must have had her radiotherapy planning meeting already. The radiotherapy nurse should have told her what to expect and she should believe her and not what she's read online.
Could you encourage her to join this community which would give her the chance to talk to people like me and hear what radiotherapy is really like?
She has her appointment tomorrow. They live in Portugal so slightly different there, then soon after starts treatment. It was experiencing a break and a bit of normal life, that made it so hard to imagine being so sick again after chemo.
The thing to remember Willow1948 is that she might be like me and sail through radiotherapy. Just because there are potential side effects with radiotherapy doesn't mean she'll get them.
It sounds like she'd really benefit from talking to those of us who have been through radiotherapy if you could encourage her to join this community.
The things that you have already told me have cheered her up my daughter told me tonight. So thank you so much for responding xx
