Hi,

New here and I am seeking help and advice, I have recently lost my father who was suffering from stage 4 prostate cancer but died from stroke related frailty.

Mum had bowel cancer which was apparently cleared through surgery, however she has now being treated for lung cancer with inoperable tumours in each lung, and we have last weekend had her in hospital with very low liver and kidney function. Mum is great in herself but doesn't realise how ill she is, we want for her to take a cruise but not sure how to insure her, anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis and about the lose of your dad, my heartfelt condolences.

A cancer journey like this in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same journey.

The Community is actually divided into Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and when it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting your mum you may benefit from joining and posting in our Supporting someone with incurable cancer support groups where you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.

To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

A Cruise sounds amazing but this may well be a challenge as often a Cruise tends to be one of the most expensive types of holiday to get insurance for.

Online comparison sites tend to use the same algorithms so getting a clear price can be difficult and it’s not that unusual to be turned down or told to call the insurers.

It’s actually more effective and quicker to call a few insurers directly as this means that you have answered all the questions correctly and in doing this a suitable policy can be offered and price given.

Full disclosure is always advisable as in the event of you developing any issues this can reduce the risk of an insurance companies wriggling out from paying out.

Do have a look through this 'recommended travel insurancethread and this New Thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. You can also look through all the individual members posts in the group as well.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
