hi all

were to start I am a cancer survivor I had gist cancer 6 years ago and I’m currently still Ned

but my partner was diagnosed 9 weeks ago with pancreatic cancer found due to excruciating pain that developed over a couple of weeks then he collapsed

we have spent 5 of those 9 weeks in hospital most of that has been trying to get his pain under control which has failed so we r now home and it’s horrific nothing is working for him he’s declining rapidly I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m scared

In the first 2 weeks surgeon told us he would have surgery as his scans looked good and there was no spread but they didn’t have a date for him so we waited and waited now they have said Chemo first but from the consultation with the oncologist yesterday he now tells us that the tumour has grown latest scan was a week ago now surgery may not be possible he was only discharged last week I feel time was wasted he was on the surgical ward all that time and they would come everyday and say we have time no rush and now our hopes and dreams r crushed we wanted to start a family we r devastated

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your partners diagnosis and journey you are all on.

A cancer diagnosis like this can be such a challenging and stressful time but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same journey.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) but ai do see that you have already joined our supportive Pancreatic cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.

When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting family and friends you may also benefit from joining our Carers only support groups where you will connect with others navigating the same support challenges.

To connect in with the group first click on the “Bold Links” I have created above then once the group page opens you can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
