Breast cancer diagnosis

I am new to all of this - I had my breast cancer diagnosis on Tuesday and have been told that I need a mastectomy and I then have the choice of having reconstruction.  This is all so overwhelming.  I am a full time carer of my husband who has early onset dementia and he is totally dependent on me so this is also adding to my anxiety levels.  I pride myself on being a strong person but my husband keeps forgetting about my cancer diagnosis - this is lovely for him but not for me!  We do not have any children but I have two wonderful brothers, and an extended family, who are being very supportive.

I thought I would join the group as my head is spinning with so many questions and it will be nice to have somewhere to come to ask the 'stupid' questions without being judged.    Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and, having had that diagnosis myself this time last year, I understand the need to ask lots of questions.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others.

When you feel ready to post there you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and also join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
