Hi Everyone -

I really would appreciate any advice!

My wife has been treated for breast cancer for two years, now. She is shortly to have a mastectomy - a procedure we both hoped could be avoided, through alternative treatments.

This prospect - which obviously principally affects my wife - has also shaken me very badly. I am struggling to cope, emotionally, with the life change that is in prospect, even after the physical healing process has taken place.

I would be so grateful for any advice, or comfort, from any husband or partner who has been through this traumatic experience.

Thank you so much!

Normandy.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that after two years of treatment for breast cancer your wife now needs a mastectomy. Having had a lumpectomy myself I do understand the thoughts that are possibly going around in your head.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see you've already found and posted in the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences about treatment and life after a mastectomy.

You might also benefit from joining the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to talk to others who have a loved one living with cancer.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
