Hi everyone
I’m new here. Currently trying to support my partner who Drs think may have Lymphoma. PET scan & Spirography are tomorrow, & then his biopsy is on Wednesday.
I just don’t know what to do with myself. The wait is torture. Absolute torture. We have 3 young children, one of whom is autistic & hard work. I just feel depressed & I keep thinking the worst will happen. I don’t want to tell him how I feel because he has enough to worry about already. I have no family nearby to speak to & I just feel so alone. I lay in bed for the majority of today whilst the kids were in school & I’ve only just made myself eat something today.
I feel so selfish writing all this. It’s not me who’s is potentially facing a seriously illness, & yet here I am .
Any advice on how you managed to get through this wait would be very much welcomed. Thankyou all.
Hi H3A and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your partners possible Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
The first thing you do is take a BIG breath and another........ although Lymphoma is the 5th most common cancer in the UK it is very very treatable with great results....... I was stage 4 in late 2013 and here I am talking with you...... and I will say that it took over a year for me to get a clear diagnosis but this made no real difference to the outcomes.
The Diagnosis of Lymphoma takes time and this is very important as there are over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma so this unfortunately this may take longer than you would like
I am happy to support you on this thread until he has a clear diagnosis...... ((hugs))
Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.
Thankyou Mike for your help. I’ll definitely join one of the groups if/when a diagnosis is confirmed.
Don’t be overthinking this, keep in mind that there are very good treatments for all these Lymphomas and I regularly talk with people all the who are 10, 20, 30 years out from their first diagnosis and are doing great.
This thread is here at any time for you to ask questions so you understand what is going on or just to get support.
You may want to have a look at this thread Questions to ask your medical team about Lymphoma in preparation for any future appointment ((hugs))
