Halfway through 8 sessions of Chemo for breast cancer.

Hello

I thought I would join the community on line to spur me on for the next couple of months and equally spur other people on who maybe have just started out on chemo. It's a real journey into the unknown but I have got this far and coped. I started just before Christmas and it seemed like I was embarking on an endless journey. But it's now March, spring is here and the end of Chemo is 11 weeks away  - and yes I am counting.

Just started a new regime of Chemo - Docetaxal. Quite different from the previous regime of EC (Epirubicin and Cyclophosphamide),1 session down a week after infusion and getting back on my feet. I wasn't prepared for such extreme effects eg aching limbs and joints and for my whole body to feel undermined, but the silver lining has to be the hideous taste I experienced with EC, think oily saccharine, is now replaced with a chalky dry taste BUT water tastes like water.

It would be really good to hear from anyone else who has had or is having Docetaxal at the moment. Any tips?

I am happy to share my experience of EC. For me I got one week feeling crappy, one week OK and one week pretty much normal ( apart from being bald!).

Best wishes to all in the community

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses but well done getting through your treatment to date.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are navigating the ‘exact’ same journey.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend consider joining our supportive Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat we also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
