I’m there til the bitter end & all call 24/7, but I suffer with anxiety & although she calls me her rock, I feel I’m going to really struggle keeping myself upbeat. Dark sense of humour we have is helping, but never known that my bestie would be in this unfair & scary situation. She’s got a daughter who she’s obviously worried about, n I need to be her wingwoman so n this journey. Time is limited & we’ve all been smacked in the face with this cancer tsunami! She didn’t even go into hospital with anything brain related either. Heart valve issue & now they can do that operation. How can one of the most fabulous, funny caring, loyal humans get this double whammy? I’m angry n I’m mourning for what I know we’re going to lose. I try not to cry n I’m very strong with her but it’s destroying me & am I saying the right things, what can do to realistically help….I’m rambling at 3am. She doesn’t leave my head. 40 yrs of friendship n complete lunacy! She’s my partner in crime. I don’t pray but now. Miracles happen right????
Hi JellyCat and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your dear friends diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis like this can be such a challenging and stressful time but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same journey.
There is no right or wrong way to navigate this journey, we all do our very best and yes we do hope for that miracle…. there is always Hope until Hope runs out.
The Community is actually divided into Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and when it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting family and friends you may benefit from joining our Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer support groups where you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.
To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)
You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat where you can find a listening ear and a place to get support.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
