Breast duct excision - Hadfield Procedure.

Hello, this is my first time posting. After being referred to the fast track breast clinic by my GP, a breast clinic nurse called last week to say my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy were clear and I would be phoned today (after the team review) to be formally discharged. I was so relieved! But when a different  breast clinic nurse called today she said the medical team want to see me back in clinic and want to do the Hadfield procedure and remove all my milk ducts under general anaesthetic. The appointment will be in around 3 weeks time. I was so shocked and am now feeling quite anxious. Has anyone else had this breast duct excision? Thank you all for being here, not sure how I’ll sleep tonight as my thoughts are racing.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about the confusion in your diagnosis process.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time and unexpected twists often happen but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are navigating the ‘exact’ same journey.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend consider joining our supportive Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group first click on the Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or Join under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title.

You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat we also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Thank you for your reply Mike. I will join the breast cancer group - think it’s going to take me a while to find my way round the website - it’s so amazing! I suddenly felt very alone late last night but your kind words and support have made all the difference.

  • The Community is like a very big house that has lots of rooms and each room has groups of like minded people supporting each other on their cancer journey or just chatting about the stuff of life.

When you want to find your groups or older posts just hit 'your' community name and that will take you to your area of the community where you will find your stuff.

Do come back to me if you need more help.
