Hi I am 67 yes old and  was first diagnosed with a DCIS in 2008 and had a wide local excision only and placed under observation. In 2022 cancer returned. I had a wide local excision and lymph node sampling done. Lymph nodes were clear but wide local revealed grade 3 invasive. Had prosigna testing which came back in as High Grade and recommendation was 4 cycles of EC chemo followed by 5 days of radiotherapy to whole breast then a tablet for 5 years. Also have to have biphosphonate injection or infusion for osteoporosis. Have just had 1st cycle of chemo. Have not felt too good. Have developed symptoms of a cold with catarrh and will be undergoing a sputum sample to see if any infection present. Am drinking plenty and eating well, any tips on preventing problems with mouth/gum issues which may arise.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but reaching out to the community will give you the opportunity to ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend consider joining our supportive Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

You can join a group by clicking on the bold link above then once the group opens select  “Join” under “Group Tools

You can then post in a group when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” next to the group title. You can also scroll through other people’s posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat we also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
