Hi everyone,
I’ve joined this community as a relative of too many people who’ve had cancer diagnosed, been treated, and some have ultimately died from this horrible illness. That’s the bad news… now for some better news: my wife has twice had breast cancer and has, thanks to it being spotted and treated quickly, survived the experience and is now enjoying life free from any recurrences.
My dad died ten years ago from complications due to lung cancer, and his brother has just lost a long battle against throat cancer. So, we’ve just held my uncle’s funeral, much sooner than we had hoped for.
I’m proud to have been part of the Macmillan family of fundraisers over the years, however I’ve not previously engaged with the charity in this way. If I can support anyone to get through what our family has been through, that would make me happy.
Although I’m grieving the loss of my uncle, I also feel a sense of belonging to the Macmillan community and I believe that makes each day a little brighter than it would be otherwise.
My family, your family, the huge Macmillan family, are sadly all connected by the vicious challenge to life that cancer brings. But, as one community, I’m convinced we can make it through the tough times.
I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who is part of the fantastic Macmillan family.
Hi CheekyCelt and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you've lost both your dad and your uncle to cancer but it's great that you want to reach out to support others.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the bereaved family and friends group which would be a great place for you to offer your support.
To join just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

Thank you Dani Beesuit ; I really appreciate you sharing your experience and the group. The sad thing is, my uncle had had several bouts of remission, and during the last one the medics were using his experience to show that there is indeed hope for people diagnosed with throat cancer. I'm proud that he was able to contribute in some way to the learnings and inform future potential treatments.
Regards

CC. You take care. I’m so glad that you at least have something to be proud of in his memory.
