Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer 8 months ago. It was picked up at my first ever mammogram and what followed was an absolute whirlwind of emotions, appointments and treatments. I feel that I have been very lucky as my tumor was caught in the very early stages and I had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy and now take Tamoxifen. Physically I feel fine but I am really struggling mentally. I cannot seem to stop my mind going to dark places and I find myself constantly worrying about what the future holds. Will the cancer come back? Have i had a glimpse into what it is that takes me out of this world? Up until all this happening I have always been a positive person but I now feel lost. Is this a common feeling, and what can I do to stop myself feeling this way? X
Hi Lillytee and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
Like you, I was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. I've had a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and finished my treatment at the end of January.
As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group which is a great place to get support from others who will understand what you've been through.
When you feel ready, you can start a new post there in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
x
Hi Lillytee and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses and the challenges you are dealing with.
The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see you have already joined our supportive Breast cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Text Link I have created above then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
You may also find it helpful to join and look through our Life after cancer group.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about emotional support or just connect with a listening ear.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
