Hi I’m new to this group but just wanted to tell you my story so far as I’m really struggling with everything. It all started in May ‘21 when my father in law passed away from dementia then 2 mth later my uncle passed away from an aggressive bladder cancer , I was very close to him and looked after him until the end. Then I’m July ‘22 I was diagnosed with breast cancer I’ve had surgery and radiotherapy, then my sister in law passed away very suddenly from ovarian cancer which she didn’t even know she had until the last week she was 65yrs. However the worst was yet to come! My daughter son in law and grandson 5yrs live in Dubai and my daughter is 28weeks pregnant, last Tuesday her husband was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer he is 37yrs it is not looking good and with the shock my daughter thought she was losing the baby as she was bleeding  luckily the baby is ok. I just can’t comprehend what has happened to my lovely family over the last 18mth but this latest news is just absolutely devastating I can’t stop crying even though I’m trying to be strong for my daughter . I’m in dubai now as I flew straight out but I feel that I can’t get through to here as she is just so upset and worried about what the future has in store. I don’t know what advice anyone can give me at all but I just felt that I had to write this to try and get it off my chest , I just feel so sad

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about the journey your family is on.

A cancer journey like this can be such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support from family members who are navigating the ‘exact’ same journey.

You have found that the Community is actually divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I see that you have already joined and posted in our Family and friends support groups where you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.

Supporting someone you love on their cancer journey can be very hard so you may find it helpful to look at this information on your feelings when someone has cancer and especially this section on looking after yourselfIf you're starting to struggle then it would be a good idea to have a chat with your GP.

I have lived with a rare blood cancer for over 23 years so I understand the journey, we have a number of cancer specific support groups, if you could tell me the exact type of blood cancer he has I can help more.

Please do get back to me if you need further help.
