  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia and it's natural to have lots of questions.

As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already joined the acute lymphoblastic leukaemia group which is a great place to ask questions about your dad's diagnosis and treatment. When you feel ready to post there you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Another group which you might want to consider joining is the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and to find out how others have provided support.

To join this group just click on the link I've created which will take you there. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here.

It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi  and a second welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your dad's diagnoses.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support and to ask your questions.

I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade NHL eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well. The bruising will most likely be down to his low blood counts....... so if his platelets are low he will bruise easily.

You see that Community is actually divided into dedicated support groups (discussion rooms) but there are a number of different types of Leukaemias...... so it's important that you connect with the right group......and Chronic Leakmia is not exacly a correct type so you need to check........ but these are our groups.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (I see you have joined)

    Acute myeloid  leukaemia

    Chronic myeloid leukaemia

    CLL, SLL, HCL

and our general Leukaemia support group. These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
