Severe anxiety after 3 liver tumours found on Ultrasound

Hi Everyone,

I have just joined Mac Millan this morning.  I am age 48.  After an Ultrasound 9 days ago for gallstones (as i get twisting gallstone pain), the doctor found no gallstones,  but 3 liver tumours.  Two are 3mm (Not too much to worry about at this stage) but one is 11mm and is darker and not a cyst,  not bright like a benign tumour would usually be.  My liver appears on ultrasound otherwise healthy.  Not fatty or cirrottic.  As i wait for all the bloods and an MRI,  I have been and still am, making myself ill with worry.   Sometimes i'm ok like normal, but it always accumulates and then i feel like i'm having a panic attack.   I'm losing weight but this might actually be from the pure stress of it.   It all sounds so melodramatic but i'm crying for my 7 year old daughter like i wont be around for her.  My best friend died two years ago from non alcohol related liver cancer.  This is probably what is amplifying my reaction.  My vivid memory is him sqeezing my hand as i told him i loved him.   Now i feel like it's my turn.   I don't know how on earth all of you cope.   I have two weeks until i get a diagnosis and this first week has already been so horrible.   Maybe i need some kind of anti anxiety drug to help me handle this.   I try to meditate and it helps but only a little.

I just don't know what i'm going to do if i'm told the worst in two weeks.

Thanks Mac Millan and all of you,  for this facility to write about how i feel.

My warm wishes to you all.

Terry

  • Hi   and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Liver cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Red (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Hi Janey,

Sorry you are going through this exact same thing.  I feel you.  My wife knows and my dad knows but no one else.  No point going public with it until the post CT scan consultation.   So they didn't say they were Hemangiomas on the ultrasound then?    Hemangiomas are common and totally benign.  They appear bright white on an ultrasound.   They are 5 times more common in women than in men, which only compounds my anxiety that it's not one in my case.  Mine is not bright white like it should be.  Is your liver showing on ultrasound as otherwise healthy?

Look.  There is an important lesson in science that we have to keep reminding ourselves:

'In the absence of evidence, one must be wary of drawing conclusions based on expectations, even when expectations appear to be the most likely outcome'.

Keep eating well, stay well hydrated and try not to do strenuous activity while you are waiting.

I have just bought some rescue remedy drops.   Does nothing )))

Next,  have you heard of DCT dendritic cell therapy?    Immucura is the company that does it based in spain but takes the blood for it in london.   Search them up and read their website.  I spoke to a lady from there this week.  As soon as my blood shows AFP (alpha feta protein) is high, and my MRI shows it's cancer,  i'm going Immucura.   The catch?   It's £42,000.00
