Diagnosed with

appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. Rare cancer anyone else experienced this?

  • Hi,

just came across your recent post and just wondered how you were doing?
I’ve just been diagnosed with a low grade appendicular mucinous neoplasm (LAMN)

I am still waiting for an actual phone call with consultant but have been told that from the MDT meeting they have decided that right hemicolectomy is what they recommend. Not sure if I need to have any further tests yet or just straight to surgery.

  • Hi,

im doing ok. My results went to Basingstoke hospital for a second opinion. Im still waiting to find out if I need more surgery or will be under surveillance. Why do they want to remove part of your colon?

    has the appendix been removed?

it’s very long process. I had appendix removed in December 2022. Still waiting on answers.

  • Thank you for your quick reply!
so sorry you’ve had to wait so long.

Had my appendix removed about 6 weeks ago. It Was found to be abnormal incidentally whilst I was having another procedure done. I have a letter with results because I kept pushing for answers but will be having a conversation with consultant this week. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what they say, I have so many questions

  • How’s your recovery going?

mine was incidental find too. It’s blessing they found it. Hard to process but grateful.

I had colonoscopy in February. That will probably be the next step for you too. They will then decide if you need part of colon removing After taking biopsy.

when the appendix is removed they can only see on the outside. That why colonoscopy is recommended to see on the inside of colon.

how old are you if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 37!

  • Recovery is going well thanks. I’m 43. Was a shock to wake up and find out they had removed my Appendix. But like you I am very grateful that they found it.

I have a telephone call this Wednesday so hopefully will find out more then. I would expect to have all the tests done before being recommended surgery so will let you know. Think they may be concerned about mucus that was found in my appendix.

it’s also so rare that there isn’t a lot of posts about it so was good to find out about other people going through the same thing x

  • That’s good hopefully it will a positive outcome. Appendix is out no further treatment needed.

Yes you’re right unfortunately not much information. Keep in touch. All the best x
