Hi I have lung cancer

I am hard off hearing and feel cut off from any support. So I'm so relieved to be able to connect to other cancer patients by using email. Phone is a no no for me.

From leading a very active life...hill/mountain walking with my dog. Also attending up to 7 fitness classes a week, I am really struggling to adjust to life as it is now.

I have completed 4 chemos and I have two to more to go. It's been scary experience which has been made worse by not being able to compare or share my experience with other lung cancer patients.

My cancer is incurable but treatable and I am 77 years old.Would love to hear from someone who is on the same journey.

Best wishes

Judyj

  • Hi   and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Lung Cancer and Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only support groups. These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Text I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Hello. I’m so glad that you found the group it’s helped me through some hard times. I don’t have cancer but my mother sister and BIL all had it and I followed this group as well as the carers group here all along the way. I can only imagine how lonely you must feel right now and maybe even isolated too so please stay close to this wonderful group of people. In my case feel free to write me anytime I do have the time to listen. You are welcome here. Diane.

  • Hi Mike I’m unable to post anything on ‘incurable patients only’  group.

  • Hi Judy  as long as you have asked to join the group the Macmillan Community Staff have to approve your group membership. This is to ensure that the group is a safe place for all the members. I am sure they will do this tomorrow.
