Hi
I had my breast cancer triple negative diagnosis in October 2022. Stages in between 2-3. Started chemo and immunotherapy on 16th January 2023, having surgery afterwards and this will be either breast conserving surgery or mastectomy, Not sure yet.
I have to have 6-8 cycles of chemo, still have hair although from what I have read it won’t be long before that’s gone!
I haven’t had many side effects, does this get worse as I go along or will it stay the same?
How long after chemo is surgery? What’s the healing like?
Hi Keepingfaith12 and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.
The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Triple negative breast cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
Hi again, is there any online live support groups for cancer patients, breast cancer would be ideal but even if it’s all cancer.
there are face to face meetings over a 45 minute drive away and the days I can’t make anyway and message boards like this, but I can’t seem to find any online meetings at all where we can meet others online in the evening or day time?
thanks
Hi try calling Maggie's Centre as they are running online group, our Heamatology group has not went back to face to face as we were getting more people attending only be.
Up in the Highlands traveling for support is part of our life so it’s not that unusual for people to do a 4 hr round trip drive to our Maggies as this is how important the support is to them.
Do check the main Breast Cancer Charities as you may find that they do run online support groups
You may also want to post your question to our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Hi, I was diagnosed with triple negative last week. Just had mri scan and awaiting oncology appointment. Feeling frightened but trying to keep it together. Consultant outlined chemo, operation and radiotherapy. Feel like my head will explode! Hope you are making progress through your plan.
Hi Trakker and a warm welcome to you.
I see you have already joined and posted in our supportive Triple negative breast cancer support group.
Do look through my reply to Keepingfaith12 as there are lots of support available for you to connect in with ((hugs))
It is very confusing or the treatment and it’s hard to keep track when you’re in a whirl. I would write everything down if you can, I wish had done this.
the oncologist said I didn’t need to write anything because he’s given me all the leaflets on drugs but I still got confused what I was having and when. I thought I was going every 3 weeks for chemo, turns out it’s every week. I have just finished my first cycle of 8. This will go on until July and then surgery so it’s a long process.
I have joined a local breast cancer support group online, and I have to say even though I am not a support group kind of person it has helped. There are so many people in the same position and asking similar questions, people who have been through it already are really helpful.
This forum
is helpful online but I find it hard to navigate, there are so many new chats, I ended up creating my own here. Also local charities often do online face to face or meet up locally, again I will find this useful.
I wish you all the best, you will come through it.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
