My Fella

My fella has started chemotherapy and has approximately another 10 to go and I don't know how to carry on doing the normal things like, work, shopping and caring for my mother without putting him at risk.  Somehow, we got a viral infection which I can fight off, but my fella had to stay in hospital with slight pneumonia and I don't know how to prevent that happening again.  How does everyone else cope with this please?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your fella was recently hospitialised with pneumonia after picking up an infection. I had chemotherapy between July and December last year and my husband and I basically socially distanced, did online shopping, only met friends outside, etc. I suppose we basically followed the same rules as when we were in lockdown and I remained infection free. However, we are both retired so it was much easier for us to do this.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, could I suggest that you join the carers only group as this will give you the opportunity to talk directly with others who might be in a similar situation to yourself.

To join the group just click on the link I've created. You can then start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'. To save you typing all this out again I'm sure you'll be aware that you can simply copy and paste it into your new post.

It would be great if you could pop something about your fella's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
