Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer early December. I am now booked in for surgery on the 19th Jan for a mastectomy reconstruction and lymph nodes removed. I've been told it's gonna be 8 weeks recovery time. Just wondered if anyone has gone through this and how long it was before you was allowed to do anything.

I have 2 children my youngest has just turned 1. My partner is gonna be at home for the full 8 weeks thanks to his work. But I would like him to be able to go back to work before the 8 weeks is up even if its just part time and I know I'll be itching to do something.

Many thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy last April but it's not the same procedure as you'll have.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask your questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created which will take you directly to the group. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
