4 weeks ago my husband was diagnosed with APML.
He was taken in to hospital and he's been on a haematology ward for a couple of days, then in ICU for 12 days back to the haematology ward now he's back in ICU.
He's had some chemo and they've tried to use the drug atra twice but that seems to affect his lungs and he ends up in ICU.
They can't give him any more treatment at the moment as he's so weak lost so much weigh and he's bed bound.
The important thing now is to build up his strength and get him to eat as he desperately needs to continue with his treatment.
He is being fed through a feeding tube at the moment but that's not enough.
Anyone else going through this type of cancer any suggestions or help would be gratefully recieved.
Thank you
Hi Gardening Girl and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnoses and journey. I have lived with and been treated for a rare blood cancer for over 23 years so do understand the problems.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive general Leukaemia support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
I had a quick look in the group and there has been a few folks post who have or a family members has Acute promyelocytic leukaemia.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
