Hi all,
Im new here, Im 61 and I was diagnosised with ovarian cancer stage 3 in February 2022, since then I've had 2 ascites drains, 3 sessions of chemo, combination of 3 different drugs. Had my surgery in May 2022 total hysterectomy and cervix, ougmentum removal, spots on my peritoneum cautorised, chances of recurrence about 75% then 3 sessions of the same chemo drugs, I'm now on Niraparib maintenence tablets and appear to be doing well apart from anaemia.
I have been off work since January 2022 as had a plumanary embolism and was hospitalised treated and then diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I suppose you could say a double whammy!
Work have now finished me on ill health just before Christmas, I'm feeling at a loss of what to do with my time, im not sure what to do or where to start, I have morbid thoughts about dying of cancer and voice them to my husband who although sympathetic doesn't really understand that this hangs over me, although he has been my rock this last year and I couldn't of gone through all what last year threw at me without him by my side. My husband is still working so I have a lot of time on my hands with my own thoughts.
I'm strong and know I will get over this state of mind but it's hard to get out of the rut! I feel better already for just off loading on here.
Stay strong everyone we are all in this together no matter which cancer we have xx
Hi RA61 and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.
A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see that you have already joined our supportive Ovarian cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
Hi RA61,. I know exactly how you feel, as I feel the same, I was diagnosed with stage 4b overian cancer had chemo & op,. Been on Niraparib since January 2023, I am doing fine by all accounts, however, the thought of ' I have cancer' when will it return, etc., ect., do haunt me, every ache and pain scares me. I to feel I need to put a strong and positive face on and I am positive which contradicts my negative thoughts... I have been thinking of joining a keep fit class to try and 1. Get stronger 2. Take my mind off cancer! So you see we all go through the same anxiety's, it is a hard rock to carry but we have to be grateful and have faith, we are going to stronger than the beast inside (the cancer).... We will win!
Lots of good vibes, sent to you!!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
