Hi all,
I'm new to the forums, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and have had surgery and radiotherapy, and i'm after some ideas on exercise.
Overindulged over Christmas and need to start looking after my health
Not able to wear a bra for very long before I feel uncomfortable so swimming is my best option, but local leisure centre pool not open for a few days.
Anyone have any suggestions on exercise that would be OK braless?
thank you
Hi WelshWalker and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to sEd you joking us.
A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.
There are post cancer exercise classes out there so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as I have attended a few very good exercise groups.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
thank you for group link, just joined.
Unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere and services like Maggies are about 2 hours away - aware of their work through fundraising & my job in NHS - but I will look in to your suggestion about local Macmillan support in my area
Some of the groups both at Maggie’s and Macmillan are online so do check the links and have a good look….. even call the Maggie’s that is nearest to you.
I stay in Inverness in the Highlands and it’s nothing to be at a Maggie’s support group and talk with people who will do a good 4-5 hour round trip from the West Coast to access the support at the Centre.
You can call the Macmillan Helpline and they will check the main database for your area to see if there is anything available - all the best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
