My wife has just finished a 6 week chemo and radiotherapy course for lung cancer. All fairly OK until last night /this morning.
She spent all night crying in pain which is coming from her bowels/stomach. Same thing this morning. If she tries to get up she falls to the ground again due to weakness.
Is this sort of thing to be expected after completion of treatment on Fri 30th. Should I call someone at the hospital.
Hi Portrait and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Your wife should have been given a 24/7 emergency phone number when she started her chemotherapy and I'd suggest that you give that number a call immediately. If she doesn't have this number then call NHS111 for advice straight away.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that once you've sorted out your wife's immediate medical needs you join the lung cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences.
To join just click on the link I've created which will take you directly there. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Let us know how she gets on

Hi Portrait
How did your wife get on when you contacted the emergency out-of-hours team/NHS 111?
I hope she's more comfortable now.

Hi Latchbrook, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
I did as you suggested and they suggested laxatives which haven't worked. She's been in a lot of pain and almost crazy at times. I have just got back from the hospital as they raised a prescription after speaking to them again this morning. The doctors think it is better for her to be at home because it's complete mayhem at the hospital after the bank holiday weekend. She is still in bed and can't get up on her own because she'll fall.
Just hoping the new medication is effective.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that your wife's no better. I'll be keeping everything crossed that the new meds are effective.
