Hello, Thank you for letting me join in.
Long story short, I was referred urgently about a week or so ago by the 4th GP I've seen since October. I saw the consultant last week who ordered CT scan (which I had yesterday and I have gastroscopy next week. I've had nausea and a lot of weight loss for the past few months. They are monitoring my weight and it keeps dropping. I don't feel well and the nausea/sick feeling is pretty much constant now. I had abnormal liver function a short while ago and was sent for bloods for hepatitis etc which came back normal. I've had lots of blood tests and my last one showed low vitamin D. Thyroid, diabetes, celiac etc seem to be normal.
As I'm sure all of you were and are, I feel so low and scared. I am mum to three lovely kids (13,11,9) but I am separated and don't really have many close friends. I work full time and I've tried so hard to keep working. I'm currently on holiday until 9th December as I work in school. I am trying to act normal and keep going for the kids but it's so hard.
I know I am jumping the gun as I don't have results but I can't really see any other reason for my symptoms right now especially the weight loss and feeling so unwell. I have no idea how I'll continue working if this continues or how I'll support myself and the children financially especially in this economic crisis.
I have very little support apart from my mum and she's been very helpful, however we are not that close so I don't really say how I'm feeling. I don't really have anyone I can talk to about this hence why I'm here.
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnoses.
A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so once you gave clear diagnosis you can look through THIS LIST where you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed.
These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
When you are ready to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above and once you find the group for your cancer click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
