Hi everyone my doctor sent me for 2 full blood tests one in April 2022 and one in June 2022 and both came back with abnormal in both of them so he sent me to a haematology consultant and I had told her the doctor was concerned about symptoms of blood cancer. After another blood test she has made me an appointment for Feb 2023. I checked my nhs app on leaflets sent by the doctor it states I have been sent information about macmillan cancer support. I didn't get any leaflet from the doctor or post and no mention of the results of the full blood tests now I am worried sick that something is wrong and have to wait till Feb 2023 to see the consultant again. Am I being paranoid ( I suffer from mental illnesses) I don't know what to do if anyone has any advice would be much appreciated

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses. I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups.

I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma but when it comes to blood cancers there are many many different types…… with Lymphoma alone there are over 60 different types.

I would advise you get back in contact with your GP as they ‘should’ have been sent all the information about your diagnosis……. and if your GP has not got a clear picture you need to get your GP to chase this up or just get back to contact with your Haematologist and ask for clear information with regards to your blood cancer type.

There are many types of blood cancer that are not treated immediately and you are put on Active Monitoring….. it took over 14 years before I needed full on treatment.

Always around to chat and support you.

    Thank you

  •   unfortunately at times we have to be our own advocate and get our pointy elbows into the system to get the information we need. Pick up the phone and get pushing.

Thank you for your advice I'm gonna make an appointment with my doctor on Monday. I just feel up in the air at the moment and haven't told anyone about this I don't want to worry anyone at the moment so I feel isolated and guilty. My wife lost both her parents to bladder cancer within a year so I don't want to put this on her till I know for sure. I lost my little sister to breast cancer 2 years ago and saw what it did to my parents so I don't want them worrying either.thank you for your advice it helped alot

  • Hi again  I see you posted this at silly o’clock so you are on a night shift or are awake stressing this Smirk

Get that Doctors appointment ASAP and make sure you get some clear answers with regards to what your actual diagnosis is and what is the way forward with regards to any treatment or as I said many blood cancers don’t need immediate treatment.

I would also recommend you explain your family’s cancer history so this makes the doctor appreciate that clear information is very important as this will help you sensitively share your diagnosis with your family.
