Hi all,

My name is Vicki... I'm 4 weeks post op for my 3rd time in 4 years of having localised breast cancer and am about to start taking letrozole to reduce my risk of a 3rd recurrence.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any holistic Medicine and / or complimentary therapies I could take / use also, as I am very conscious of my health and go to the gym 5-6 times a week, so any natural way to reduce risk is also of great interest to me.

I haven't used macmillan in the last 4 years and for some reason tonight felt to reach out and had the need to ask for any help you can give.

I feel like I need to be part of a community that understands first hand about this awful disease - I will not let it beat me though that is for sure....!

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for taking the time.... In advance Thumbsup

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer and journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) but I do see that you have already joined and posted in our Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

We would advise you to first speak with your clinical team about holistic Medicine and complimentary therapies as many of these can actually cause interactions with cancer treatment reducing their effectiveness so it is best to check with them beforehand, to ensure it is safe for you to take them.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Thank you very much for your advice Thumbsup

  • Thank you so much... I have spoken to my doctor today and he said the same thing so I think I'm going to do what I can do to help myself.. Food... Exercise.. Keep my weight low.. Don't drink... Sleep well... Keep positive and start letrozole alongside my supplements and keep everything crossed it stays away!!!

  • Hi again  I have been on my incurable blood cancer journey for over 23 years now and the approach you have highlighted was more or less what I have been doing all these years……. but I do indulge in a Single Malt from time to time Wink

Keep your mind focused on the ‘good’ and only concern and stress yourself if you are told there is a problem. It’s worked for me over all these years and yes, I have had multiple relapses but look - I am talking with you today 7 years out from my last treatment and living the dream.

Set you mind on enjoying Christmas and look with anticipation for 2023 to be a good year ((hugs))
