  1. My Sister has been diagnosed with stage 4 Throat Cancer which has spread to other areas, she is only 56.  Because she was not eating the hospital decided to put in a Stint to open up her throat, when they did this they found she had  Chest Infection which had spread. She was put into a Coma on Life support  so they could treat the infection, as her heart was weak they gave here 48 hours tops.
  2. My Sister had symptoms going back 5 months but she has Schizophrenia so it was not detected until she had lost a lot of weight.  Amazingly she pulled through but was in a Coma for 10 days.
  3. She has now gone home to be cared for but has not eaten as her throat is sore and she gets headaches and is now complaining of toothache and stomach pains.
  4. The diagnosis is 8 weeks, the whole family are in pieces, although she suffers from Mental Health she is the most Kindest Softest Sweetest Beautiful human being I know.
  5. They will not give her Chemotherapy so she is now left to deal with it not really knowing what's wrong.
  6. We are contacting McMillan and Hospice for advice but as I am not in the same Country as her it's so difficult. Three weeks ago i flew over when she was in a Coma to say my goodbyes,I am due to go over again as I want to embrace the time we have. My family are all there but I worry for my Mum who is not well herself and is not eating or sleeping properly.
  7. Is there anything that we can do to help her,and make it easier? How do we deal with this..it's heartbreaking ..
  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your sister has been diagnosed with throat cancer and it's natural to want to know how best to support her.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to connect with others who have someone living with cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created which will take you directly there. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your sister's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
