Hello,

New to this community today as really need help and support. Our 62yo Father was diagnosed with brain metastases and kidney cancer in April. The kidney was removed in August, but last week a scan showed it had spread to his lungs, lived and glands. We really don't know much more at this stage. It has been terribly frustrating given he was under 2x teams at 2x hospitals often getting the answer, 'that is a question for the other team'. They have mentioned meeting with an oncologist now which I hope will be today or tomorrow. I just feel very helpless and lacking in information.

Thanks, LD

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm really sorry to read that your father has kidney cancer which has spread to other areas of his body, and I know what a worrying time it will be for the whole family.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've joined several already. When you feel ready to post in them, I'm sure the other group members will try their best to answer your questions and share their experiences.

You might also like to join the carers only group, if you are your father's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both of these groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with others who are looking after someone with cancer.

It would be great if you could pop something about your father's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
