I'm new here to the group. My husband was just (9 weeks ago) diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer. He had Metastatic Spinal Cord compression from the Cancer. He's still in the hospital recovering, unable to walk right now. He had been in rehab for 3 days before he got ill with sepsis and a skin infection. It feels like some days we just slide backwards more.

As if all that isn't enough, he also has CLL. Luckily, that has just been watch and wait. No treatments have been needed, but just knowing that it's there is enough for me.

I came over from America 9 weeks ago when he became Ill. Never in a million years did I expect another cancer diagnosis for him. Neither did he. I know that there are a lot of people out there with stories and problems. Just some days it feels so lonely and depressing thinking about how life was just a few short months ago to what it has become. I am thankful each and every day that I still have him, I couldn't imagine life without him.

My father passed away from Lung cancer so the cancer word has been one that I have really come to HATE. Why do the best people have to suffer through something so horrible?

I guess I'm just looking for others out there that I can connect with when I'm feeling lost and alone.

  • Hi  and a welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.

As you know the Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) abd I see that you have already joined and posted in our Family and friends support group where you will connect with others dealing with the same challenges while supporting family.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.  We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Please do get back to me if you need further help.
