Fear of recurrence - breast cancer at 32!

Hey everyone

Im Georgie! I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 when I was 32 years old. It was grade 3, her2+. Fortunately it was stage 2 with no spread to my nodes.

i had chemo, mastectomy and more targeted chemo as I didn’t have a complete response originally. I’m now 1 year post treatment and I’m frightened every single day.

I’ve recently had some weird sensations in my chest and now have some shoulder pain so I’m worried it’s mets to my lungs but I also don’t know if it’s anxiety based. Is there anyone whose had mets to lungs who can share their experience? Or anyone who has severe anxiety about recurrence and how/ if that impacts you physically?

thanks everyone xx

  • Hi  and a welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing concerns.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) abd I see you have joined and posted in our Breast cancer group, you may want to have a look at our Breast, secondary cancer and Life after cancer support groups. These are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support or just connect with a listening ear.  We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
