Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in January this year. I was rushed to hospital where they found a 14.5 cm tumour in my left kidney. I had a life saving operation and they took out my kidney and the tumour. I was on immunotherapy for 5 months with clear scans and then 5 weeks ago my PET scan showed cancer in my liver and back in the sane region of my last. I am now on Cabozantinib which is a chemo tablet I take daily to hopefully reduce the cancer from spreading or shrink it. I have a wonderful family with 3 teenage girls and am married to my gorgeous hubby. Our lives have been turned upside down. I am coming to terms with the fact it’s probably not curable but am desperate to stay on earth. Today I am feeling good and hopeful. My side affects are not too bad - bad acne and other weird symptoms but I am ok really physically. It’s the mental side that is hardest. Anyway. Just saying hi to all you fellow cancer warriors.

  • Hi  and a welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer and journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see that you have joined and posted in our Liver, secondary cancer support group, we also have put Kidney cancer support group. These are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

I see that you have found our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
