Hello everyone
My Mum had a poorly leg for a few weeks and is a 'if i don't go to the doctor and I don't know what it is then I'm not poorly' kind of a person! Anyway she ended up collapsed on the floor in agony (fortunately her sister was there and able to call an ambulance) and went to A&E. X-rays showed that she had broken her femur (now pinned and doing basic physio until a bed available at a full time rehab/therapy centre) but also showed a 'mass' in her womb and enlarged lymph nodes. During the pinning of her femur they took a sliver of bone to send for analysis. All she has been told so far is that they are waiting for the results of the bone analysis, if cancer then they will make a plan from there, if not then they will do a biopsy of her lymph nodes and/or mass in her womb.
The operation to pin her femur was Tuesday 18th October and other than the above we still haven't heard anything further from doctors etc about what is happening.
How long should we expect to wait for the results? Is there supposed to be a certain length of time before they are supposed to tell us? Should she or I be 'pestering' more to find out what's what? I really am at a loss as to what to do.
x
Hi Nelly1970 and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your mum. The diagnosis time can such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support and to ask your questions.
As to how long for results take to come back?.... over my 23 years with my type of cancer i have had to wait anything from a week to 6 weeks due to some samples being sent for further specialist tests....... so there is no exact timeframe - it just need to be correct........ but after a few weeks you can safely start to get your pointy elbows into the system.
I do hope you get answers soon.
If you mum does receive a cancer diagnosis you can then search through our support groups (discussion rooms) by looking at this list. These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis and treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.
When you are ready to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above, find the group and once group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.
When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting family you may also benefit from joining our general Family and friends and Carers only support groups where you will connect with others navigating the same support challenges.
The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Please do get back to me if you need further help.
Hi Mike
Many thanks for your reply, some very useful information in there. I shall certainly look to joining some of the groups dependent on whatever the news is when we get it.
Thank you again
