Hi there,
My Nan (77yrs Old) was diagnosed with lung cancer on 18th Oct. (Long story for another day but this was found via CT for a bowel investigation). When diagnosed the doctor said the surgery would be Within 2 weeks!! Whilst waiting for this appointment my Nan was diagnosed with Bowel cancer.
Both are not related and separate cancers and can both be operated on.
The Bowel surgeon suggested that the bowel surgery will be after the lung early in the new year so my Nan would have enough recovery time between surgeries.
I have just received a phone call stating that her Pre-Op appointment will not be until 8th Nov (3 weeks from diagnosis) and the operation will not be for 2 - 4 weeks after this date!! I am furious as this is just too long! My Nan has 2 cancers and this operation will hold back the bowel one also.
Who can I contact to sort this out??
Thank you
Hey there, I'm really sorry to hear about your nan, but it is promising that both cancers can be operated on :)
With regards to the dates being quite a way away, I can only suggest maybe contacting the referring doctor about it... But please remember that the NHS are struggling a great deal right now due to Covid cases and this may have an affect on things - obviously, an appointment can only be arranged when the correct doctors and nurses are available :) The only certain way to speed things up would to be to seek private treatment, but, of course, that will be expensive, unfortunately.
The waiting 'game' is awful to go through, but, sadly, that's usually the only thing we can do. Just try to remember you're not alone. Friends and family will always listen and offer advice, as will everyone here!
I wish you and your nan all the best in trying to bring things forward and hope future appointments go well for her! X
Hi Busygrandaughter and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your Nans diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support and to ask your questions.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer and Lung Cancer support groups. These are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis and treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members on the same journey.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) links I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting family you may also benefit from joining our general Family and friends and Carers only support groups where you will connect with others navigating the same support challenges.
