My husband has just finished 6 cycles of RCHOP for non hogkins lymphoma. He’s finding any kind of recovery really hard. He’s extremely tired and has had an ongoing chest infection and cough since his 5th cycle. Sometimes he coughs so much he goes very dizzy and passes out. I’ve taken time off work as he doesn’t feel safe without me in the house but we’re hoping these side effects will soon get better. I’ll need to go back to work soon He’s had his scan and we see the consultant next week to see if the chemo has done it’s job. It’s hard going. Is this kind of thing normal?
Hi and welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your husbands Lymphoma journey.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable Low Grade Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so I understand this journey rather well.
Unfortunately what he is experiencing can be rather normal. Recovery from treatments like R-CHOP can take rather a long time.
My Consultant told me that going through treatments like these was like doing a boxing match and a marathon every day over the months of treatments and this was done without any training. Think doing the London Marathon without any training and you had to finish it as your life depended on it……. this is the journey your husband has been on so it most likely will take much longer than you would think for him to get back to some normality, it took me a rather long time as I had a more intense treatment - I was 60 at the start of my recuperation
I do see that you did put up a reply to a post in our in our General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma group a few weeks back. We also have a few NHL specific groups.
Why not connect in with a group. Just click on the best Green (Bold) link that fits with his type of NHL. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure what type you have pleased do get back to me on this post and I will help you out further.
((hugs))
