Hi, I have had vocal changes in the past 3 years, recurrent tonsil flare ups, cough and re ently headaches and ear pain. Family GP referred me to ENT who was booked out till Feb so saw his partner who perfprmed endoscopy. He referred me back to his colleague (who was booked out till Feb) and saw him.in a week. Got a CT done before seeing him was told it was normal by CT place however ENT said was abnormal. 3 to 4 lymph nodes on right side of neck, and told me right tonsil abmormally lge & i had a tumour. Sending me to FNA tomorrow. Am extremely anxious and have been reading up which is probably the worst thing to do. Told me if it cane back negative (from FNA) then will do a PET scan. Can they tell by endoscopy that its cancer?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Community but sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your ongoing diagnoses. This is such a stressful and challenging time. I honestly don’t know if a endoscopy can tell if there is cancer but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who have navigated the exact same journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I suggest you consider joining our supportive Head and neck cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.  We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

    All the very best.
