Hi. This is my first post. I’ve just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I’m feeling very scared. I had the option of radiotherapy or to have an operation to remove the prostate. I have chosen the op.
However, I feel very upset, and every little ache or pain I get, I am convinced it’s the cancer causing it. Even if it’s a simple headache or anything!
Obviously there’s a few weeks wait until the op so I’m concerned that the cancer is spreading while I wait. I guess they know what they’re doing.
Apologies for my message but wondered if it was natural to feel this way even though the surgeon has told me they are optimistic that removing the prostate will sort it.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and I can assure you that it's perfectly natural to think that every ache and pain means that the cancer is progressing. I doubt that there's anybody within this community who hasn't had those thoughts at one time or another.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this diagnosis.

To join just click on the link I've provided which will take you directly to the group. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with exiting conversations by clicking on 'reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
