Hi,
I have recently been diagnosed with CUP. Very hard to get my head around the diagnosis and next steps which is a neck dissection. I have no symptoms and neck tumour only found following my work 360 health assessment which funnily enough turned out to be green, (fit and healthy). At the end of the assessment the doctor physically examined my and could feel a lump in my neck on the left hand side. Following an open scan referral, the doctor picked up on the scan abnormal lump on the right hand side of my neck. I cannot remember the last time I was unwell, so very hard to get my head around my diagnosis and the fact that the doctors cannot find the primary cancer and I need a neck dissection and a possibly follow up surgery to remove my tonsils and back of my tongue, including chemo and radiotherapy. Thanks
Hi BridgetJ and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you were recently diagnosed with CUP and I could imagine that it would be difficult to come to terms with not knowing where your primary cancer is.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the unknown primary cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this diagnosis, and also the head and neck cancer group, which would give you the chance to ask questions, if you want to, about neck dissection.
To join either or both of these groups, just click on the links I've provided which will take you directly to the group. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with exiting conversations by clicking on 'reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
